Greetings:
I received a very strange notice when i picked up a recent "General Delivery" piece of mail sent to
me via the Santa Cruz Main Post Office Branch (95060) USA.
Recognizing the fact that I travel alot, i tend to use 'general delivery' as a means to receive periodic
pieces of mail in whichever county or state i am temporarily residing in at the time. This is the first time
I have never received such a notice limiting my ability to receive General Delivery mail at any post office.
As far as I understand it, US citizens are entitled to AT LEAST 3 months a year to receive 'General Delivery'
mail. This is the ONLY Post Office i am aware of that has limited me in any way from receiving General Delivery mail. I would like an explanation.
I will also be inquiring directly to USPS in Washington, DC to try to get some clarification on your
(apparent) new policy. Is there an extension form? If there is, I would like to apply for an extension to continue to receive 'General Delivery' mail at the Santa Cruz Main Branch indefinately.
I would also highly recommend that you expand 'General Delivery' services to your other Santa Cruz branch on Morrissey Blvd and the Scotts Valley branch, both of which currently re-direct their incoming 'General Delivery' mail to the main Santa Cruz branch. This would lessen the burden of 'General Delivery' mail
services (along with long customer lines) to the main branch.
During this time of economic depression, "transient individuals" (as USPS calls us) need postal delivery
services now more than ever. The local 115 Coral St mail services center at the Homeless Services Center,
who were providing Free Mail services for the poor and homeless in Santa Cruz, are now charging $5/month for the privilege of receiving mail, which i contend, most poor/homeless can ill afford.
Regards,
Steve Jones
